September 15, 2008- A Comprehensive Community Planning committee is being established for Listuguj. This means we will be one of many communities that are benefiting from Comprehensive Community Planning.

On September 10th, Listuguj held a meeting with interested committee members to discuss what Comprehensive Community Planning means and how the community will benefit from the process. The meeting was a positive experience that allowed many voices to express their ideas about our community’s future. While Listuguj still in the beginning stages of planning, interest is growing quickly and will require the support of the whole community.

Communities across the country have found that once an effective community plan is in place, it can:
• Empower the community;
• Improve performance;
• Build teamwork and expertise;
• Coordinate future development;
• Protect resources;
• Celebrate traditions and culture;
• Promote healing and reconciliation;
• Create economic opportunities.

Each community requires a unique approach to planning that can be adapted to their culture and traditions. Here in Listuguj, we are in the process of establishing a solid committee that will work with the community to work towards developing a plan that addresses the priorities, values, and interests of our own people.
