April 22, 2008- Yesterday, I was given the privilege of addressing the students and teachers at Alaqsite’w Gitpu School (AGS) in Listuguj, Quebec. While getting up in front of people and delivering a speech is not something that I am totally comfortable doing, I was able to deliver a message that as First Nations we need to do our part in taking care of Mother Earth.
Earth Day is now the largest, most celebrated environmental event in the world, involving 500 million people in over 180 countries. More than six million Canadians, including nearly every school child, took part in Earth Day activities yesterday.
As First Nations we should try and treat each and everyday like Earth Day. Each of us has a responsibility to ensure that we have a planet that is cared for and respected both now and for future generations.
