The Gespe’gewaq Mi’gmaq Resource Council (GMRC) is a non-profit environmental organization with a mandate to promote sustainable natural resource and oceans management within the traditional territory of Gespe’gewa’gi, Mi’gma’gi, the largest district in the Mi’gmaq Nation. 

As Executive Director and CEO, you are responsible for the overall management of GMRC including operations, human resources, financial, government relations, programs, and administration. Reporting to a Board of Directors, you will be accountable for providing strategic leadership in the development and implementation of policies and programs within the organization. In this role, you will provide timely advice and guidance to the Board and under their direction ensure that all programs and services are carried out effectively. A strong leader and facilitator, you will support your staff in achieving their performance goals. You will liaise with various stakeholders including member communities, provincial and federal governments, other funding agencies, and the broader community. In all your work, you will act in a caring, supportive, constructive manner.

As the ideal candidate, you are a collaborative leader with several years’ experience in senior leadership roles, preferably First Nations based. Alternatively, you have senior management experience in the provincial or federal government in the field of resource management. Academically, you hold a degree, ideally in business or commerce, and have established skills in managing budgets, finances, administration, people, programs, and operations. Because of your business acumen, you also bring solid know-how in policy development, governance and advocacy. While you understand what running a business is all about, you also possess well-developed personal qualities that are consistent with Mi’gmaq values, and have a strong appreciation of the traditions and cultures of the Mi’gmaq.
